The compromise we refuse to make
Ask most women about their favourite shoes and you'll hear the same sentence: "I love them, but I can only wear them for a couple of hours." That has been accepted for so long it stopped sounding strange. It should sound strange.
The trade-off isn't inevitable. It's what happens when a shoe is designed to look right in a photograph rather than to work through a full day. Comfort is rarely a matter of adding padding — it comes from the shape of the last, where the sole flexes, how weight is distributed across the heel, and whether the toe box lets your foot do what feet naturally do. Those decisions are made long before a shoe reaches a shelf, and they are exactly what we look at.

How we choose every pair
Four questions decide whether a shoe earns a place in the collection.
Does it work at hour eight?
Almost anything feels fine for the first ten minutes. What matters is how a shoe behaves after a morning of standing, an afternoon of walking, and an evening you didn't plan for.
Does the sole flex where your foot flexes?
A sole should bend at the ball of the foot — roughly a third of the way back from the toe, exactly where your foot bends. When it folds through the arch instead, your foot ends up doing structural work all day, and you feel it in your knees and lower back long before you feel it in your feet.
Does the heel shape match the promise?
A block or platform heel spreads your weight across a wider base, which is why we favour those shapes for anything you'll genuinely walk in. Finer heels have their place, and we carry them — for the occasions that suit them, described honestly as such.
Is the sizing truthful?
Fit is the most common reason footwear gets returned, and it is almost always the retailer's fault for being vague. A pointed toe needs more length than a round one. A strappy sandal needs to sit closer than a closed shoe. We would far rather tell you a style runs small than let you discover it yourself.
